Mark Spector of Sportsnet, who mostly covers the Edmonton Oilers, has received his share of backlash after a comment regarding the makeup of the Vancouver Canucks

Mark Spector of Sportsnet has been around a long time. He's been covering sports, mainly hockey, for the last 30 years. He's also well-known for his spicy takes on certain teams, players, and subjects. Spector's latest comments are garnering him some backlash in the online world.
Spector decided to take questions on a flight to Dallas where he's headed to cover the Stars against the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference final. One of the first ones was about the makeup of the Vancouver Canucks and whether the team can win with the players they have. Spector said he believes the Canucks have too many European players.
"Perfect coach for that team. [J.T.] Miller excellent leader. [Quinn] Hughes will grow. Good D. Many skill guys either small or perimeter guys. Got pushed out - EL40 (Elias Pettersson) esp.

Depth can't all be Euro skill guys. Some? Sure - not all.
Need more Saskatchewan, less Stockholm."
That comment didn't sit too well with many, as it is considered an outdated and discriminatory line of thinking. It wasn't long before Spector was getting roasted for his take.
"This kind of identification of playstyle with geographic origin is cheap and lazy."
"There's one (1) player from Saskatchewan playing in the third round.

It might be time to analyze the game beyond googling each player's hometown."
"Wow... this is quite the take, Spec.

I already knew you never watched the games, so it's not surprising.

This is the kind of thinking that gets teams Jake Virtanens instead of William Nylanders...

Time to hit the retirement home with the rest of the NHL's Old Boys Club️"

For his part, Spector wasn't about to back down, saying he was just telling it like it is.
