NHL insider Chris Johnston has linked veteran defenseman Mark Giordano to the Winnipeg Jets.

Despite the fact that Giordano remains unsigned, he is reportedly focused and determined on signing with an NHL team this season. The 41-year-old was already the oldest player in the league last season, but he believes that he still has what it takes to play in the league. Johnston reports that he has been training extra hard this offseason in an attempt to extend his career.
"Giordano spent the summer skating with Toronto-based NHLers and has continued to train since they dispersed for training camp. He's pushed himself particularly hard in on-ice sessions while trying to fend off Father Time and work his way back to a league where 39-year-old Ryan Suter of the St. Louis Blues is currently slated to be the oldest skater."

Apparently, there may be a path for him to return as well. Among the teams Johnston has linked Giordano to is the Winnipeg Jets. While Gio's focus is largely on getting back in the league, he also wants to go to a team that can win as he has never lifted the Stanley Cup. The Jets very well could be a contender this season, making them an appealing market for the veteran.
The Jets figure to be a strong team this season, but they could have a weakness on the backend as their bottom pair in the season opener featured Hayden Fleury and Collin Miller. Neither player has established themselves as being particularly good in the NHL. In particular, Giordano could be an upgrade on Fleury.
Giordano got into 446 regular-season games with the Maple Leafs last season and did not play in the playoffs. He is up to 1148 career regular-season games making him one of the most tenured players in the league to never win the Cup. Unfortunately though, players like this are becoming more and more common in the salary cap era. Hopefully Giordano will get one more chance and it very well could come in Winnipeg.
