A major trade has been rumored to be in the works between two of the best Canadian teams this season.
Nylander On The Move?
William Nylander has been on a tear to start the season. He is in the last year of his contract and his price continues to go up with each point he gets.
Nylander has 14 points in 10 games this season. With the Maple Leafs salary cap situation they could look to move him if they can't get a deal done.
If the Maple Leafs are going to trade Nylander during the season they would need to get another player with the same point potential. A new rumor has come around linking a star from another Canadian team in a player-for-player swap.
A Canadian Blockbuster
The name that has been circulating in Nylander rumors lately has been Brock Boeser. Boeser has been on just as good of a start as Nylander this season in Vancouver. He has one more year left on his contract at $6,650,000. This would give the Maple Leafs more flexibility for the rest of this season and into next season.
For the Canucks they could bring in a star and lock him up long-term. There have been rumors that Brock Boeser is not interested in staying in Vancouver long-term. If they could get Nylander to commit to the team and sign an extension they have plenty of cap space to fit him in.
This trade could work out for both sides getting each team what they need. The Maple Leafs get short-term flexibility at the same skill level. The Canucks get a long-term asset for a player who is rumored to want to leave anyway.
