The Edmonton Oilers have struggled to find their answer in between the pipes. A new rumor brings a permanent solution to town in a massive trade.

Oilers Looking To Pull Off Massive Swap For A Goalie

A new rumor has come around that would bring a new solution to the Oilers' goalie problem. With Jack Campbell clearly out of the future picture with his now AHL struggles a need for a new number one has been intensified.

One name that has been recently linked to the Edmonton Oilers is Yaroslav Askarov. Askarov is one of the top prospect goalies in the NHL right now. He is also logjammed behind Juuse Saros in Nashville who is still only 28. Askarov is lighting up the AHL with a 1.60 goals-against average and a 0.935 save percentage.
With a 21-year-old goalie playing this well the trade package would need to be huge for the Predators to budge in giving him up.

Massive Trade Package Includes Prospect Swaps

After this rumor was put on the table nhltraderumor.com put together a package that could be considered a starting point in negotiations.
Edmonton's 2024 first-round pick, coupled with one of their high-profile prospects Xavier Bourgault, Raphael Lavoie, or Matvey Petrov.

The trade would likely need to include a goalie coming back to the Predators as well for roster purposes. The Oilers would give up a couple of significant pieces of their future for Askarov. If they are going to give up that much they would need to be sure that Askarov could step in immediately and contribute.
In the Predators' case, they are a struggling team this season. They add a couple of young assets for the price of one. Saros is also still young enough to be good by the time the Preds come out of their rebuild.
The trade could be a massive shake-up of the NHL landscape if it comes to fruition and brings a certified stud to the net in Edmonton.
