Star defenseman Brett Pesce is speculated to be available for a trade, as he and the Carolina Hurricanes have not delved deep into contract talks, and Pesce's is set to expire after next season.

Cap Carrying Defenseman

Pesce carries a cap hit of $4.025 million for next year. The Toronto Maple Leafs were, at one point, showing interest in acquiring Pesce in a trade with the Hurricanes. However, it appears they are no longer interested in paying the price it would take to get Pesce.

Pesce is well known for his shutdown defensive skills, with a career plus-minus of +82. He is coming off an impeccable season, tallying 30 points and a plus 11 rating.

Pesce's Possible Placements

Two teams remain interested in Pesce despite his high but deserved price, the Seattle Kraken and Calgary Flames.
Pesce has a modified trade clause in his current contract which includes 15 teams that he would be willing to go to in a trade. It is unknown whether or not the Flames and Kraken are on that list.
Pesce would add much-needed defensive depth to both teams if he is to be moved.
