The reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Vegas Golden Knights just made a splashy move ahead of the trade deadline! They've nabbed defenseman Noah Hanifin from the Calgary Flames, and it's got the whole NHL buzzing, especially with Friday's 3PMET deadline right around the corner.

Vegas Golden Knights Make a Trade Deadline Splash

Vegas gets Hanifin with 75% of his salary retained, and they also snag the rights to promising player Mikhail Vorobyov from the Philadelphia Flyers. In return, Calgary gets a conditional 2025 1st Round Pick, AHL prospect Daniil Miromanov with a two-year $1.25 AAV million extension attached, and another conditional 3rd Round Pick. The Flyers get in on the action too, sending over Vorobyov's rights to Vegas to seal the deal.
Now, Hanifin isn't one to sit on the sidelines. With his solid defense and slick puck-handling skills, he's been a real game-changer for the Flames. And now, he's taking his talents to Vegas, adding some depth to their blue line.
Yet let's not overlook Vorobyov. He's been tearing it up in the KHL, putting up 41 points in just 61 games this season. With skills like that, he's sure to be an asset for the Golden Knights.
The draft picks involved come with some interesting conditions. If Vegas trades away the 2025 1st round pick before the deadline, it becomes a 2026 pick. Yet, if they manage to win at least one round in the 2024 playoffs, that 3rd round pick could get upgraded to a 2nd rounder. And with each team holding onto 25% of Hanifin's $4.95 million paycheck, this deal's a bit easier on the wallet for everyone.
With Hanifin's contract up after this season, this trade looks like a strategic move by Vegas to gear up for a repeat. And for the Flyers, it's a chance to beef up their draft picks and strengthen their prospect pool. Meanwhile, Calgary gets assets for a player who wouldn't be returning.
As the trade deadline creeps closer, you can bet there'll be more moves like this shaking up the league. So, keep your eyes glued for all the latest updates as teams wheel and deal their way towards the playoffs!
