Though he is one of the older players in the league at nearly 37 years old, Crosby is still producing well with 32 goals and 31 assists in 60 games this season. With these results, it is hard to imagine his contract will be much less than the $10 million mark.
However, the Penguins have not been performing very well, currently in the bottom half of the league and losing 5-0 to Washington at the end of the second period in tonight's game. Crosby has made it known that he wants to win, and that simply is not happening if he stays in Pittsburgh. With this, talks of a trade happening sooner than later are becoming more abundant.
Both the Maple Leafs and Avalanche have been outperforming the Penguins this season, and both teams could be looking for more player depth over the next few seasons. While there is no trade deal imminent, Crosby is going to be an important player to watch.
