Tyler Bertuzzi's contract demands made public by NHL Insider

The Toronto Maple Leafs took a chance this season by signing 28-year-old left-wing forward Tyler Bertuzzi. Given he just had two consecutive seasons with less than 30 games played, the best he could get was a one-year contract.

Despite his underwhelming presence both seasons prior, Bertuzzi proved himself towards the end of the season, pulling in a total of 43 points in 80 games. He also asserted his presence in this year's Stanley Cup playoffs, tying for second in points by game six of their series against his last team, the Boston Bruins.

Given this player's massive performance improvement, there was no doubt this player would look for higher-paying contracts. Earlier today, it was announced that the player was reportedly discussing his future with the team.

However, little time passed before the Bertuzii's supposed contract demands were made public. NHL Insider Jordan Schmaltz indicated that the player would sign a three-year contract with a $4.75 million average annual value, with nearly half paid in signing bonuses.

Though neither Bertuzzi nor the Toronto Maple Leafs have confirmed these stipulations, many fans of the franchise are hopeful about this scenario. This deal, to many, seems almost too good to be true.

Though this could be a possible steal, any deals between Tyler Bertuzzi and Toronto are unlikely to be finalized for a while. Hopefully, the team can come to a deal before the forward can decide he wants more. If not, it could be back to the drawing board for the Leafs once again.
