The Winnipeg Jets have had a lot of questions surrounding their team this offseason. With the team underperforming in recent years and the core getting older many have wondered if a rebuild is coming. Along with that franchise goaltender Connor Hellebuyck's contract is up at the end of this season.

Hellebuyck Continues To Dominate In The Net

Since coming into the league in 2015-16 Connor Hellebuyck has been one of the best goaltenders in the NHL. He has played 445 games in his NHL career and in those games had a 2.66 goals against average and a 0.916 save percentage.
These numbers are some of the best for goaltenders throughout this time. Even with his elite play, the Jets have not found much success beyond the regular season. Now Hellebuyck is heading into his age 30 season and rumors have been spreading that he might be on his way out of Winnipeg after this year.
With training camp beginning we got an update on where things stand in contract negotiations between Hellebuyck and the Jets.

Jets GM Speaks About Hellebuyck's Contract Status

In a media availability ahead of training camp General Manager of the Winnipeg Jets Kevin Cheveldayoff spoke about several topics. One of those topics was indeed the contract of Connor Hellebuyck and his looming extension.
Cheveldayoff indicated that the two met and discussed the upcoming season. He also said that both sides are on the same page and want the same things for the Jets in the upcoming season.
It was a good meeting. You know I think we sat down and chatted and you know again you know he's a pro. He's been at this for a long, long time now. A lot of the focus of the meeting and that was exactly what I said like we are here to try to win.

While this quote sounds pretty positive toward the direction of negotiations we will have to wait and see. The longer Hellebuyck goes into the season without a contract the more concerning the situation gets.
The Jets likely have a panic date in their minds of when they will start looking at trade options to move Hellebuyck if a deal can't get done. For now though the focus like Cheveldayoff said is trying to win.
