Nashville Predators forward and former Conn Smyth Trophy winner with the Vegas Golden Knights Jonathan Marchessault, was in Quebec City on Saturday night for a special moment, the retirement of his jersey by the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts.

But while the ceremony was successful, it carried a heartbreaking weight. Marchessault lost his mother on Thursday, and he shared this devastating news during the event.
Despite the unimaginable grief, he found the strength to attend, a testament to his dedication and character.
His tribute to his mom was nothing short of beautiful. It was clear how much she meant to him, and his words were a fitting homage to the bond they shared.
It's difficult. I learned that I lost my mother yesterday morning. It's been 24 hours, so it's very difficult, not only for me but for my entire family. Anyone who knew my mother knows that a moment like today would've been one of the best of her entire life. That's what's so sad. She would've loved to see it, to see her name raised to the top of the Videotron Centre. She was so good to me, she was incredible. It's horrible. It's part of life. She would've wanted us to be here as a family, so that's why we went through with it.
Our hearts go out to Marchessault and his family during this incredibly tough time. We hope he finds the support and comfort he needs in the days ahead.
