The future of the Arizona Coyotes has been the hot topic around the NHL since they lost the vote to build a new arena in Tempe. Speculations and whispers of a potential move have been rife, but as of late, no definitive plans had surfaced.

Some new information was finally released earlier today.

Major Update

It looks like the process has finally started!
"Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo has put in a letter of intent to purchase 41 acres in Mesa, Arizona for the team's new arena.

Meruelo is also still looking into other possible sites including Mesa, Phoenix, and Scottsdale.

Meruelo's goal is to have multiple sites under contract so there are options. This is to have a plan in place by the first quarter of 2024, so a target date is hit for a new arena's completion in time for the start of the 2026-27 season."

Their goal is to relocate for the 2026-27 season!
According to the reporter Craig Morgan, the Coyotes have been investigating new opportunities beyond Tempe's boundaries. The hunt seemed to be narrowing down, with a location that looked promising. However, some complications arose, breathing life back into the possibility of the team staying in Arizona.
"A couple of the initial Mesa sites proved problematic for various reasons, but as we continue to report, the Coyotes & the NHL both believe that the team has legitimate options to remain in the Valley."

Do you think the Coyotes will change their names when they relocate?
