Calgary Flames considering massive trade involving star Jacob Markstrom

According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the Calgary Flames are considering a massive trade involving their star goaltender Jacob Markstrom.

With Dan Vladar and Dustin Wolf ready to take on the workload for the 2024-25 season, the Flames find themselves with a surplus between the pipes.

Despite his no-movement clause, Markstrom has been involved in trade rumors for years and it looks like it could finally happen this summer.

LeBrun revealed that the New Jersey Devils are interested in the goalie, and that Markstrom would be willing to lift his clause to join the Devils:

"Those conversations with the Flames have taken up again. We know that those two teams almost had a deal done before the trade deadline earlier this season before March 8. It fell apart, but the Devils remain interested in Jacob Markstrom and, as importantly, Jacob Markstrom has a full no-move, but my understanding is he's willing to go to New Jersey."

He also shared that the Flames received calls from other teams about Markstrom, which will probably lead to a bidding war for the goalie:

"There are other teams now that weren't there on Markstrom before the trade deadline that have now entered the picture. The Flames are getting calls from multiple teams on Markstrom, not just from the Devils... At this point in time, there's still a difference of opinion on the return, on what it should cost the Devils to get Jacob Markstrom out of Calgary and the Flames are willing to be patient in terms of having a team meet their price."

The New Jersey Devils' general manager Tom Fitzgerald revealed in a recent interview that he'd be willing to trade his 10th overall pick for a goaltender. Other reports suggest he might get Linus Ullmark instead of Markstrom.
