Former Flames captain Mark Giordano was heavily disrespected by current GM Craig Conroy after a possible reunion between the two was sadly shut down.

At 41, Mark Giordano isn't ready to retire from the NHL just yet. Having suited up for the Toronto Maple Leafs this past season, there's word that Giordano would like to keep playing into 2024-25. No longer a player likely to be counted on as one of the tops, he does bring value to contending teams as depth. It came to light recently he has spoken to three Canadian teams.
Two of those teams are ones he's played for before, the Maple Leafs and the Calgary Flames. However, according to Sportsnet's Eric Francis, Flames GM Craig Conroy, who was Mark Giordano's former teammate, has no interest in bringing him back. This isn't terribly surprising, as the Flames already have a stacked defense, with stars at the top, solid depth, and promising young players in development. Plus, with the recent addition of Tyson Barrie, there's no room for Giordano on the roster.
He fits better in Toronto and Edmonton. Last season was spent with the Leafs, where he recorded 9 points in 46 games. A bottom-pairing spot with Mark Giordano would be an incredible fit, but if a team doesn't sign him for this season, retirement may be an option. That retirement would not be by choice, as Giordano really wants to continue playing. Only time will tell.
