Some sad news out of the NHL today, former Edmonton Oiler Brad Malone unfortunately announced his retirement after only nine NHL seasons.

Forward Brad Malone is officially retiring after nine seasons of professional hockey. Initially reported back in April, it was speculated he might be done, and now his time with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors is officially coming to an end, which puts an end to his career for good.
Brad Malone was a fourth-round pick in the 2007 NHL Draft, selected by the Colorado Avalanche, and he made his league debut in the 2011-12 season. Malone played in nine games for Colorado, adding two assists. He would go on to spend the next seven seasons finding limited ice time in the NHL with the Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes, and Edmonton Oilers.
Brad Malone had 14 goals and 32 points in 217 NHL games, including a couple of short playoff stints, where he played eight total games, with the 2014 Avalanche and the 2022 Oilers.
He's spent most of his pro career in the AHL, racking up 552 regular-season appearances and another 28 playoff games. Brad Malone has served as captain for the Condors for the past four seasons, including a career-best 2021-22 campaign in which he posted 39 points.
While Brad Malone's teams rarely did too much in the playoffs, he could feel the taste of success during the 2020-21 AHL season. Due to the pandemic, the Calder Cup playoffs were on hold, and instead, the Pacific Division made up a special tournament in which Condors won the final game against the Henderson Silver Knights.
Happy retirement Brad!
