The Colorado Avalanche had a game one to forget, forcing them to make a last minute roster move calling up Ivan Prosvetov.
The Avalanche clearly were not happy after their 7-6 loss against the Winnipeg Jets. The unorthodox loss was completely out of left field and it seemed to be uncharacteristic for a team who is coming off a Stanley Cup Championship just two seasons ago. This team is full of Stanley Cup Playoff experience and they are without their veteran captain, Gabriel Landeskog, who has been out ever since the team raised the cup in 2022.
While Connor Hellebuyck's six goals against was not the former Vezina winner's best performance, seven goals on just 23 shots was one to forget for Avalanche goaltender, Alexandar Georgiev. This triggered the Avalanche to call up their waiver pickup from 2023, Ivan Prosvetov. The 6 foot 5 inch goaltender has put together an admirable year in the AHL posting a .920+ save percentage and a sub 2.5 goals against average, while playing in eleven NHL games this season and posting an .895 save percentage and a 3.16 goals against average.
It is still very possible that Georgiev will play in game two, but this roster move opens up another option for Colorado who is in need of a miracle. Justus Annunen would normally step in, but it was indicated by head coach of the Avalanche, Jared Bednar, that Annunen is still sick with the illness that held him from suiting up for game 1.
