Meredith Gaudreau, the wife of the late Johnny Gaudreau, has reached out to Sean Monahan of the Blue Jackets and expressed some heartbreaking words.

As the new season is about to get underway, NHL teams have started the preseason games, carrying with them the thrill of hockey lovers across the globe. To one family, however, the Gaudreaus, this is anything but a normal season. With the death of Johnny Gaudreau, a somewhat somber mood has now placed a chokehold on what is usually a very joyful time of year. He will be greatly missed, not only by fans and teammates but most profoundly by his family, including his wife Meredith.
On Friday, Meredith Gaudreau took to Instagram to post an emotional message on just how draining this season will be in the NHL for her and her family. Basically, at this time, she would be getting ready with Johnny for forthcoming games, but since he is no longer around, a gap in his place can never be filled. Indeed, her words did show sorrow and struggle with the adjustment of a new normal, one without the familiar routines of the hockey season including Johnny anymore. This was a pain that radiated in all who read her post.
Even amidst that sorrow, Meredith did find a reason to take solace. A silver lining came in the form of Johnny's close friend, NHL veteran Sean Monahan. Tragedy or not, Meredith seemed willing to support Monahan through this season as a way to stay connected to the hockey world. Monahan has become a beacon of strength for the Gaudreau family. He came with open arms to provide solace in their time of deep sorrow.
"It's been really hard watching hockey start up and seeing how different my life is now," wrote Meredith via her Instagram. "My whole life was taking care of John and our kids. It's all I ever wanted. But watching Sean wear CBJ is something I know John always always wanted. Noa loves cheering for Uncle Sean too. Wishing 23 a good training camp and can't wait to cheer you on."

Monahan has also shown his dedication to keeping Johnny's memory alive. It was recently reported that Monahan would continue dressing next to Johnny's locker for the entire season, a touching tribute symbolizing a bond between two players that will never be broken. A very touching move of remembrance, as Monahan keeps Johnny alive both on and off the ice. More importantly, it has demonstrated the deeply personal camaraderie in the NHL, whereby the players can sometimes be like family to one another.

In the process, Meredith Gaudreau's message reminded people that life could be incredibly complex, even amidst a sports season. It took courage to find hope in friendship, and Monahan's dedication to keeping Johnny's memory alive was a strength to their heartbreak. The Gaudreau family is preparing for one of the most challenging NHL seasons they may have had so far. But with resilience and good friends like Monahan, they will get through this.
