Today, a new story told by Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer revealed that he recently had a nerve-wracking phone call with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.

The Ottawa Senators have been a franchise surrounded in turmoil over the last several seasons. Their previous ownership group did not drive fans or players to want to come to town. On top of that, the team's former General Manager Pierre Dorion caused the Senators to lose a first-round draft pick.
The team finally was able to get a new ownership group with Michael Andlauer taking over. During his early days as the team's owner, he spoke about losing their first round pick.
Since then the Ottawa Senators have gotten back on track with progress towards being a competitive team. However, recently Michael Andlauer revealed he got a call from NHL commissioner Gary Bettman that sent him into a state of worrying again.

Michael Andlauer recounts a recent phone call with Gary Bettman

In a new interview during training camp Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer spoke about his offseason. He revealed that he got a call from commissioner Gary Bettman and thought about the loss of the first-round pick the last time the two parties spoke.
It was a very busy year with a couple of speed bumps, said Andlauer of his first season as an owner. When Gary Bettman called me last night I said 'Oh boy I hope that I haven't lost another first round draft pick for next year.'

While Gary Bettman did not go into detail regarding his talks with Gary Bettman it is safe to assume the loss of a draft pick was not on the table. In fact, Gary Bettman could've been calling to congratulate Michael Andlauer on the arena deal he is closing in on to move the team to LeBreton Flats in the heart of Ottawa.
With this change, it seems like brighter days are ahead for the Ottawa Senators. They have a promising young core and an owner who is willing to listen to fans and make changes they have been wanting for years now.
As the season begins it will be fun to see if this new confidence from Michael Andlauer radiates down into the rest of the Ottawa Senators organization.
