The 33-year-old Magnus Hellberg has definitely been an NHL journeyman, as he has spent time with multiple teams around the league. He was originally drafted by the Nashville Predators in 2011, and following that ended up playing for the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators, and most recently the Pittsburgh Penguins. He can now add Dallas to his resume.
Magnus Hellberg only appeared in three NHL games last season with the Penguins, and had a 1-0-0 record with a very nice .922 save percentage. Impressive numbers for a guy who hasn't seen much NHL action. Despite this, he was sent to the AHL and played 19 games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, where he had a 9-8-2 record and a 2.92 GAA with a .905 save %.
This is likely a depth goalie signing for the Dallas Stars as they are pretty solid in net at the moment, but if Magnus Hellberg gets called up, he will be ready to prove himself, like he's done countless amount of times with other teams.
