The Edmonton Oilers forward group is as talented as any other in the NHL, but at this time of year, it's still good to try out potential new fits with Cup goals in mind.
While it's been rumoured for weeks, the Oilers have now officially added both F Sam Gagner and F Brandon Sutter on PTO's, as they will try to break this deep group when training camp begins.
If he makes the roster, this would be Gagner's third stint with the Oilers, playing over 1,000 games in the NHL, and for Sutter, this is his chance to crack an NHL roster for the first time since playing with Vancouver back in 2020-21.
It won't be easy for either to make a push, as the Oilers top-six is absolutely stacked, but with the bottom-six not having the established names needed deep in the playoffs, it's a good opportunity for both.
The Oilers have come close to making a Cup push over the past few years, but have fallen short each and every time, and now they seemingly have stability in net, bringing in two veterans could give them the experience edge they need to take out a wide open Western Conference.
