It seems like sooner rather than later that Edmonton Oilers Gm Ken Holland will have a big decision to make, and an insider is pointing to a surprising possibility.

Insider Mentions Surprising Possibility as Next Head Coach in Edmonton

If there is no improvement over the next couple of games, a coaching vacancy in Edmonton seems like a no-brainer. TSN Insider Pierre LeBrun has a hunch on who it might be.
"I don't think they see a team that has given up on their head coach, but if there are external options it's worth noting that Gerard Gallant and Ken Holland go back, they've played together in the AHL and have remained friends over the years."

Meanwhile, his colleague Darren Dreger seems to think the organization will promote an assistant coach rather than hire someone externally.
"I don't believe Ken Holland wants to make that coaching change just yet, but if he doesn't look outside maybe he stays inside and promotes Glen Gulutzan."

The Next Coach in Edmonton Could be a Familiar Name According to Insider

Gallant would certainly be the coach with more experience, having done stints with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, and New York Rangers. Gulutzan has served as a head coach with both Calgary and Dallas, but didn't last long in either city.
