RUMOUR: Carter Hart To The Oilers?

In major news that came as no surprise to anyone who's watch the Oilers this year, the team announced a major roster move today. Goalie Jack Campbell was placed on waivers for the purpose of sending him to the AHL. It is expected that the team will call up AHL goalie Calvin Pickard in a corresponding move although the team has not made the announcement yet.

The Oilers likely are not expecting Calvin Pickard to save their season. Rather, he is likely a stop-gap measure designed to get the team back on the right track before they can make a more significant move. One team that has been open about accepting offers on a goalie is the Philadelphia Flyers, who are reportedly open to trading Carter Hart for the right price.

NHL insider and TSN analyst Ryan Rishaug seemed to shoot this idea down as he reported today that the Oilers are unlikely to make a trade on the goaltending front in the immediate future.

Still, this could fit in with the stop-gap approach. The oilers may take a week or two to see how things go before making a more significant move. Regardless, trades in the NHL take time. Even if the team wanted to make a move today, they would likely have difficulty coming to an agreement to quickly.
