The Edmonton Oilers have been linked to starting goaltending help all season long, and now one of their potential targets has now officially requested a trade.
Could Elvis Merzelikins head to Edmonton?
While Stuart Skinner has played better as of late, there could be potentially too much pressure on his shoulders as the starting goaltender, so while the team aren't necessarily looking for a star to replace him, a proven backup could be a great option.
Now, a potentially cheap option in Elvis Merzelikins of the Columbus Blue Jackets has officially requested his release.

A cheap option to create a solid goaltending duo
Plenty of Oilers fans have looked the way of Juuse Saros, Linus Ullmark or Carter Hart ahead of the March 8 trade deadline, but Merzelikins is a much more realistic option, and could create a fantastic duo with Skinner in net for Edmonton.
In 174 career games, he has put together a 3.15 GAA with a .906 save percentage, and if the Oilers want to save their top assets for another move, this may be a good, under the radar move from the red-hot Edmonton squad.
