The Edmonton have made cuts to their already competitive roster proving they're getting ready for one of the greatest seasons of all time.
Oilers Make Six Cuts
Earlier today, it was announced that the Edmonton Oilers made six cuts to their roster including NHLers Greg McKegg and Drake Caggiula being placed on waivers.
Drake Caggiula, Greg McKegg have been placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment.
Carter Savoie is one of the more underrated prospects in all of hockey and could make the Oilers this year as a call-up. Savoie was a 4th round pick back in 2020 but has proved to be worth much more than that since. With the University of Denver in 2021-22, Savoie popped off with 45 points in 39 games.
Last year he joined Bakersfield in the AHL and was rather lackluster with 11 points in 44 games. If he can find his 2021-22 self, Savoie could prove to be a valuable asset for the Oilers down the road.
They also sent goaltender Olivier Rodrigue down who was a 2nd round pick back in 2018 and will look to build off his 2022-23 campaign where he posted a .912 sv% in the AHL.
Back in 2015 or 2016, these types of players would have been competing for a roster spot in Edmonton so with them being among the first cuts, it is a testament to how good of a job Ken Holland has done in building this team.
