Following last night's 4-1 win over the Seattle Kraken, Oilers GM Ken Holland announced today that Jay Woodcroft was out as coach, with Kris Knoblauch taking over. Knoblauch isn't exactly a household name in hockey, but his connection to McDavid is strong.
That's not the only connection McDavid has to Edmonton's upper management. The person advising GM Ken Holland is CEO of Hockey Operations Jeff Jackson. Jackson, who was hired by the Oilers back in August, is McDavid's former agent.
Those are two people with a whole lot of power within the Oilers now. Maybe it's a coincidence, but it would be a big one. Jackson, of course, denies any consultation with any players prior to making his decision.
