Oilers fans have been made aware of videos online that show Connor McDavid having a blast wakeboarding, leading them to believe his injury was a scam.
As many know, wakeboarding is an intense sport and requires great abdominal strength. After McDavid was seen wakeboarding ever so effortlessly, it led many to believe that he really did not have the abdominal injury that was revealed at the end of the playoffs.
Following the Oilers elimination in game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals to the Florida Panthers, the Oilers proceeded to clear out their locker room. It was at that moment that McDavid revealed that he had been playing the entire 2024 playoffs with an abdominal injury. The good news was that McDavid said he would not require surgery and would be ready in time for training camp.
Connor McDavid was also playing hurt - and set a new single-playoff NHL record for assists.
The Oilers still got to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.
People are now saying that McDavid's injury report was a scam. Fans are questioning why that information was even released, if clearly McDavid is now wakeboarding like a pro.
So the injury news was a scam I guess
Scam or no scam, it appears OIlers fans and management have nothing to worry about in terms of McDavid's health. If he can wakeboard like a pro, he will clearly be ready for another 100 point plus season.
