After signing his record-breaking extension with the Edmonton Oilers, Leon Draisaitl has taken another big step off the ice- with his incoming big payday beginning next season.

He's now bought a house right next to his teammate and close friend, Connor McDavid.
Both now live in Edmonton's Laurier Heights, one of the city's most beautiful neighborhoods. McDavid and his wife, Lauren, already call it home, and now Draisaitl and his fiancée, Celeste, have joined them. Now, the two can train, practice, basically live and drive home together year round.
Draisaitl's recent 8-year, $14 million contract extensionhas him set monetarily , and guarantees him being in Orange and blue for at least 19 total seasons. It's expected McDavid won't be far behind and will get his business done next Summer ahead of that impending contract year.
Leon has truly cemented himself as a cornerstone in Oil country.
Since his 8-year deal began in 2017, he's been near at the top of the league with 713 points and 297 goals, both ranking him 2nd overall. He's also a powerhouse on the power play, leading the NHL with 130 goals. And when it comes to clutch moments, the 29 year-old has racked up 53 game-winning goals, placing him 4th in that category.
Playoff Leon though is a different beast. He's tied for 1st with 30 goals and coming in 2nd for both points (81) and assists (51). His 15 power-play goals also lead the league.
The house move highlights the close bond between Draisaitl and McDavid-some even say they're a «package deal.»
Many believe that Draisaitl's commitment signals McDavid's eventual re-signing with the Oilers too.
The two are like brothers, and their wives, Lauren and Celeste, are like sisters, having been best friends since high school.
In fact, Lauren was the one who introduced Leon and Celeste. With a tight-knit relationship on and off the ice, it seems almost certain that McDavid will stick around in Edmonton, with the two families committed to being family friends forever.
