The Edmonton Oilers appear to be close to signing a veteran right-handed defenseman from the free agency pool, and it could be announced shortly.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli has reported that the three main players currently linked to the Edmonton Oilers are Justin Schultz, Tyson Barrie and Kevin Shattenkirk, among a few others.
Justin Schultz has previously played in the NHL for the Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, and Seattle Kraken. Schultz won back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Penguins in 2016 and 2017. He has 324 points in 754 NHL games including 71 goals.
Tyson Barrie was drafted back in 2009 by the Colorado Avalanche and started his career with them, after which he moved on to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators. Barrie has 809 games of NHL experience under his belt and has scored 109 goals for 505 points. The fans would love having him back for a 2nd stint with the team.
Kevin Shattenkirk was a first-round draft pick way back in 2007 by the Colorado Avalanche, but only ever played half a season with them before he was traded to the St. Louis Blues. He then spent time with the Washington Capitals, NY Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks and Boston Bruins. It's safe to say he's a true NHL journeyman, so why not add the Edmonton Oilers to his very lengthy resume!

With only a few weeks to go before training camps begin, GM Stan Bowman still has another signing or two up his sleeve, and it could likely be one of these three aforementioned players.
