The Winnipeg Jets have been linked to the trade of Rutger McGroarty all summer, and now the GM has revealed the shock reason behind his trade request.

This summer has been an interesting one for the Winnipeg Jets, as top prospect Rutger McGroarty has made life tough for the front office, reportedly revealing he is unhappy with his position in the organization. This led to the shock Thursday trade that lands him with the Pittsburgh Penguins, giving them a top young prospect that they are hoping can take the reigns from Sidney Crosby one day.
Now, General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has revealed what actually happened, stating that McGroarty simply said it 'didn't feel right' through his agent, with very little clarification beyond that.
Given how important he was to the future of the Winnipeg Jets, this is a shock move from McGroarty, but with a potential role opening up for him in Pittsburgh, it may end up being the best possible thing for his future and his development. The highlight of the return for Winnipeg is Brayden Yager, who spent time with the Moose Jaw Warriors in the WHL, showing that he's capable of playing in Winnipeg, so for the sake of Cheveldayoff, hopefully he can become the star they were expecting in McGroarty.
Rutger McGroarty, who has yet to appear in an NHL game, was picked 14th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft. Frustrated by the lack of playing time Vailable with the Jets, McGroarty requested a trade to seek an opportunity with a team that would offer him more NHL ice time.
