This week the Edmonton Oilers have been forced into action after two of their players were offer sheeted but a solution might be on the horizon to fix their problems.

After making their way to the Stanley Cup Finals in the 2023-24 NHL season many were expecting the Edmonton Oilers to re-load heading into 2024-25. After several months they had not made many moves to add players but instead traded away Ryan McLeod to the Buffalo Sabres.
Since the trade, the Oilers remained mostly quiet. This all changed when the St. Louis Blues decided to offer sheet both Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway on restricted free-agency contracts.
With the Edmonton Oilers already significantly over the salary cap matching these offers is currently not possible. However, a new report from a trusted source has confirmed the Oilers are working to create significant salary cap space to be able to keep their young stars.

Report reveals the Oilers are working on trades to clear salary cap space

Since the offer sheets had been signed many sources have been digging to find out what the Edmonton Oilers are going to do. One source named Bruce Garrioch from PostMedia has confirmed the team is trying to shop Brett Kulak and Cody Ceci on the trade market.
League executives told Postmedia on Thursday that the Oilers were trying to get the contracts of defencemen Cody Ceci ($3.25 million) and Brett Kulak ($2.75) million off the books so they could match the offer sheets, and we're told there are teams that have shown interest.
As of now, nothing is close to being done but with teams showing interest the Oilers could potentially get something done. If the Oilers are committed to keeping their young stars both Brett Kulak and Cody Ceci could be had in cap dump moves.
Once the deadline for the Edmonton Oilers to match these contracts draws closer we will likely hear even more rumors and reports regarding potential trades.
