The Edmonton Oilers were one game short of the Stanley Cup in 2024, and with eyes on taking the next step in 2025, they could be targeting an intriguing veteran.

The NHL off-season has barely started and yet it's been a chaotic ride, and with free agency beginning on July 1st, things are about to get even more wild. The Edmonton Oilers were quiet over the two day draft in Vegas, and now they appear ready to strike in free agency, with several big name targets making sense for them.
Coming off a Stanley Cup Finals appearance however, the team have limited funds and will need to spend wisely, so this recent suggestion from reporter Jason Gregor makes perfect sense;
Jeff Skinner will have made $100m after his buy out, but he's yet to play one playoff game.

Have to think he would sign a lower AAV to play on a competitive team.

He has scored 33,35 and 24 goals the past three seasons. Had 82 pts in 2023.

EDM, VGK, TB, DAL are competitive teams with good Cs who could use another scorer.
After a career resurgence in Buffalo, Jeff Skinner has now been bought out, and with a lack of playoff appearances in his career, it's safe to say he may prioritize that over money at this stage. Whether that is the case or not is unclear right now, but given the opportunity to play alongside arguably the NHL's two best players, Skinner would be wise to look into this option.
On top of Skinner, the likes of Anthony Duclair and Jake DeBrusk are also intriguing options, so when free agency begins, expect Edmonton to push hard for a solution to their top-six winger issues.
