As the 2024 NHL Draft occurred in the background, newly hired Toronot head coach Craig Berube accidentally revealed that Mitch Marner will remain part of the Maple Leafs.
"The #TorotnoMapleLeafs have acquired the rights to Chris Tanev in exchange for a seventh round pick in 2026 along with rights to Max Ellis.
Ellis scored a total of 34 points with the #TorontoMarlies over the past two seasons (14G,24A)"
However, Toronto's own Core 4 forward Mitch Marner was expected to be a big name in trade talks. Only this past week has his name come up in debunked Utah deals.
"The reports surrounding Marner to Utah are FALSE and though Utah has been involved, there is no trade imminent or deal done at this moment"
However, Craig Berube took this allegation down one step further. The new Toronto head coach accidentally confirmed that not only would Mitch Marner not be going to Utah, but that he was excited to work with the player.
"He's a character guy. He's a great person. Obviously, a great player. I'm looking forward to coaching him."
Though this is not exactly a published contract, Berube could not have been clearer. With this statement, we can likely expect to see Mitch Marner remain on the Toronto Maple Leafs roster. The only worry with this player now is his cost.
