On Wednesday, the Edmonton Oilers were without Mattias Ekholm in their 7-2 win and although it seemed like just a game he would miss, it was announced today that he will miss a second straight game versus the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. The Oilers head coach made a shocking comment.
Ekholm missing second straight game
In a tweet by the Oilers addressing the lineup for their highly anticipated matchup versus the Colorado Avalanche, Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch made a comment regarding the status of defenceman Mattias Ekholm.
Defenceman Mattias Ekholm is expected to remain out of the Oilers lineup against the Avalanche on Saturday night. The blueliner was a late scratch before Wednesday night's 7-2 victory over Washington due to illness and is anticipated to miss his second straight game after Head Coach Kris Knoblauch said he would deploy the same lineup tonight.
The Edmonton Oilers will have to adjust tonight as they are without arguably their best defensive defenceman versus the powerhouse, Colorado Avalanche who have potential hart winner Nathan Mackinnon and Mikko Rantanen.
It will be really concerning for the Oilers if Mattias Ekholm misses more time leading into a crucial playoff campaign. Let's hope for the best in Oil County.
