The Edmonton Oilers have been on fire this off-season, adding to their Stanley Cup Finals team, but it may not all be good news for new GM Stan Bowman.
After losing in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Edmonton Oilers didn't stand pat in free agency, as they were quick to add Victor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner to this loaded forward group as they look to hoist the Cup for the first time since 1990. However, things may not stay that way until training camp begins, as Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg have been identified as two players still vulnerable to an offer sheet.
"While offer sheets are few and far between in the NHL, all it takes is one team that decides to try to disrupt things and sign a player on a cap-strapped team to an offer sheet to change things. Looking at who is left, Edmonton is a team that would find themselves in a tough spot if one of their restricted free agents, defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway, were to eventually sign an offer sheet with another team." La Rose said.
Offer sheets are exceedingly rare in the NHL, but with the Oilers so close to the salary cap, many of their rivals have the opportunity to make life so much harder for new General Manager Stan Bowman. Holloway is the much more appealing of the two young names, as he came alive in the post-season, with five goals and seven points in 25 playoff games, with his hometown Calgary Flames being proposed as the potential team to make the move.
We've heard no update on any specific team making contact with either Broberg or Holloway, but with so much talent and potentially limited playing time in Edmonton, don't expect this story to go away in the coming weeks.
