After Frank Seravlli circulated rumors that a Cole Perfetti and Martin Necas trade was considered, Winnipeg Jets Insider Scott Billeck reported the alleged discussion never happened.
Yet, having entered a short-term contract with the Canes, many NHL fans and analysts began to speculate as to what deals fell through involving Necas. In a recent edition of the Daily Faceoff, Frank Seravalli claimed there was a deal on the table between Carolina and the Winnipeg Jets. For Necas, the Hurricanes would receive Cole Perfetti, Rutger McGroarty, and a draft pick.
"There was another deal, I think, on the table. I don't know how seriously Carolina considered it, but I believe it was Winnipeg, and I think Winnipeg offered... Rutger McGroarty, Cole Perfetti, and some pick. I think it was some combination if I have that correct. Perfetti, McGroarty, and a pick for Marty Necas."
However, just over a week after these rumors made their way into online trade discussions, Jets Insider Scott Billeck put any speculation on the existence of this deal to bed. The Winnipeg Sun sports contributor stated that no offer was made, and the team is very aware they would be unable to sign Martin Necas to a long-term deal.
"Still seeing that the #NHLJets offered Perfetti to Carolina. This didn't happen. Carolina wanted Perfetti in a possible trade. The Jets didn't want to trade him.
And ultimately, any deal for Martin Necas wasn't going to happen as he wasn't going to sign long-term in Winnipeg."
Though we can speculate on the forward's future, it is clear some teams in the NHL know they are off the table. As for Frank Seravlli, just like the rest of us, he will have to wait until he really knows after Martin Necas hits free agency in 2026 where he signs next.
