Evander Kane has been a solid player for the Edmonton Oilers, but with big extensions on the way, it appears he may be on the way out.
The Edmonton Oilers were so close to the Stanley Cup in 2024, and with a team that's on the verge of taking the final step, they have to be careful about the moves they make from here on out. With Connor McDavid (2026) and Leon Draisaitl (2025) hitting free agency, the team may need to fork out some record breaking deals, and with the current roster sitting near the salary cap, this could force some changes.
Now, one insider has predicted that will be Evander Kane that is moved by way of a buy-out, as he has two-years left on a deal that carries a cap hit of $5.125 million per season.
Tyler Yaremchuk on what the Oilers cap situation could look like in 2025 - @tyleryaremchuk
This wouldn't be a hard move for Edmonton to make, as they found plenty of forward depth in the past year with Dylan Holloway, as well as adding Victor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner, with Kane potentially being too much of a headache to deal with on top of that.
It would probably be beneficial for the Oilers to get Evander Kane's contract off the books
There are also some suggestions that the buyout could come earlier to give the team some freedom ahead of the trade deadline in 2025, but whatever the case, all signs are pointing towards Evander Kane being on the way out in Edmonton.
