The Edmonton Oilers have been zeroing in on a new deal with Leon Draisaitl for some time, and now it appears they may be closer than ever.

Leon Draisaitl has become everything the Oilers could have hoped for when they landed him No. 3 overall in the draft, and now, he's due for a major pay bump. While he's not a free agent until the summer of 2025, there has been much discussion about an extension beforehand, and now insider Bob Stauffer has dropped a major prediction.
BREAKING: The Edmonton #Oilers are re-signing Leon Draisaitl. Bob Stauffer confirms the deal will either be a 7 or 8 year contract, and it sounds like it'll be announced soon.
It may not be quite that close to being done, but another report has revealed that straight from the mouth of Draisaitl's agent, all signs are pointing towards a seven or an eight year deal.
«I spoke to Mike Liut (Draisaitl's agent) it's going to be a 7 or 8-year deal. It's probably going to be an 8-year deal realistically»
After yet another 100 point season, the expectation is that Draisaitl's deal will come with an annual value of $13 million or more, and while that's a huge hit, it will go a long way to locking up Connor McDavid in the summer of 2026 too. It's unclear when it will be announced, but at this point, it appears the Oilers are going to keep their superstar after a long stretch of speculation about their future.
