According to Insider reports, the Winnipeg Jets considered a deal that would bring in Washington Capitals forward Connor McMichael.

The Washington Capitals have had relatively meager performances since their Stanley Cup win in 2018. Hoping to change their consistent loss in the first round of the playoffs, the team pulled in forward Connor McMichael the following year with their first-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.
"The newest member of the Washington Capitals - Connor McMichael - talks to the media for the first time in Vancouver."
However, at 23 years old, McMichael has not developed his game enough to be a priority for his team. At less than a point every three games, the Washington Capitals were forced to move him down the roster and trade for a more experienced player. They opted to trade Darcy Kuemper with Pierre-Luc Dubois from the LA Kings.
"The Washington Capitals have traded for Pierre-Luc Dubois in exchange for Darcy Kuemper. 🔁

No salary was retained on either side."
However, things seem to look worse for McMichael's future in Washington. According to Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Free Press, the Capitals were working on a deal to send him to the Jets. This would be two years before his current contract expires and he enters free agency.
"There was some chatter around the 2024 NHL Draft that the Jets and Capitals were considering a deal that involved centre Connor McMichael. McMichael is under contract for two more seasons at $2.1M and then will be a restricted free agent. McMichael was bumped down the depth chart with the arrival of former Jets centre PL Dubois.

Jets head coach Scott Arniel would be familiar with McMichael from his time with the Capitals and he would immediately find himself in the battle for the 2C job that is vacant after the departure of Sean Monahan in free agency."
Though Connor McMichael is not on quite the same level as Pierre-Luc Dubois, he could provide the Jets some value deeper in the lineup. However, they may have to wait to grab him until after his contract with Washington expires.
