After not reaching a deal with the Oilers, Carter Savoie is officially leaving Edmonton to play in the Finnish Elite League.
Carter Savoie seemed hopeful; going into the 2020 NHL draft. After a longer wait than many expected, Savoie was picked 100th overall by the Edmonton Oilers.
"Join us in congratulating Carter Savoie on being drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2020 NHL Draft!
Savoie was selected 100th overall (4th round) by the Oilers!"
Carter Savoie has played over the last two seasons with the Oilers' AHL affiliate the Bakersfield Condors. However, it seemed like he may finally get his chance after his brother, Matthew Savoie, was traded to the team in a deal with the Buffalo Sabres.
"🔁 TRADE 🔁
The #Oilers have acquired forward Matthew Savoie from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forward Ryan McLeod & forward Tyler Tullio.
#LetsGoOilers"
Yet, less than two weeks later, Bob Stauffer reported that Carter Savoie was unlikely to play with the big league the next season. Instead, he would be on an AHL-only deal with Bakersfield.
"It sounds like - according to Bob Stauffer - Carter Savoie will likely return to the Oilers (Bakersfield) on an AHL-Only Deal.
This is the assumption, especially now with a Roster Spot opening with Fellow AHL'er Jake Chiasson Traded."
However, Carter Savoie is officially off the hook for Edmonton. After the Oilers did not provide him with a qualifying offer, the 22-year-old forward has officially signed with TPS in the Finnish Elite League.
"Carter Savoie has signed a 1 year contract with TPS in the Liiga
Savoie had 10 Goals and 12 Assists in 63 Games Played, and didn't receive a QO"
Carter Savoie garnered 10 goals and 12 assists in 63 games with the Bakersfield Condors, but now he is set to improve his game away from the AHL. Hopefully, he gets the work he is looking for with TPS.
