With Connor McDavid's contract extension coming up, PK Subban is already suggesting that the decision to stay may not be as easy as everyone in Edmonton is hoping.

It feels so far away, yet everyone is already starting to talk about how the contract extension negotiations will go in Edmonton with star Connor McDavid. McDavid isn't set for a new contract until his expires in 2026, however, with Leon Draisaitl up for negotiation this offseason, thinking about the long-term future is on everyone's minds.
McDavid is already one of the top-paid players in the NHL, and for good reason. He will surely get a pay increase, and the question will become whether or not the Oilers can afford everyone else around him. Now, PK Subban is suggesting it may not be as easy for McDavid to stay as everyone is hoping.
"I would never ever tell a player to do that. You know, it's your career. Crosby's got cups. McDavid doesn't have any yet, so you know it's different, right? Crosby's in a situation where he's got his legacy and all that stuff. With McDavid, he's got the same, but he's got no cups yet," Subban said.

"So I think that it's gonna be a personal decision to Connor and what he wants to do, but I think he really wants to make it work in Edmonton. I've never asked him about it, but I can usually tell by a player's body language and his attitude.

While Subban still thinks that McDavid wants to be in Edmonton, it sounds like it isn't an open-and-shut case, and there might be potential for McDavid to want to go search for a few Stanley Cups if he feels that it won't be done in Edmonton. McDavid has been clear that his goal is not personal accolades, its to win a Stanley Cup.
