Dubois was supposedly a massive get for the Kings after an exchange with the Winnipeg Jets in the last offseason. The team instantly signed him to a huge eight-year, $68 million dollar deal, and Dubois took a spot on LA's top line in his first game. Since then, it's been nothing but heartache for Kings fans as Dubois struggled out of the gate and has yet to recover. And, while Dubois is certainly being criticized for his lack of production, fans are also frustrated with what seems like a complete lack of effort at times.
Dubois is currently in year one of his eight-year deal, which carries an annual cap hit of $8.5 million. He has a full no-movement clause in the first five years, meaning any attempt to trade him would need his approval from the get go. If Dubois can't improve, the Kings have put themselves in a terrible spot of having him eat a big portion of the team's salary cap while under producing.
In the meantime, Gabe Vilardi, one of the key pieces the Winnipeg Jets received in the Dubois trade, has 30 points in 36 games this season.
