The NHL often has some very interesting rules that fans don't agree with, and while it makes sense for safety, the rookie lap fine has now struck again.

For the second time in as many days, the Montreal Canadiens have seen a big time debut, with Logan Mailloux skating in the team's final game of the season. He didn't have as much impact or hype as Lane Hutson, but Mailloux is meant to be a major part of the team's future, and now he's reportedly facing a fine from Commissioner Gary Bettman.
Much like Hutson, Mailloux's rookie lap came without a helmet, and as we know, the NHL will always levy a $2,500 fine to the player for that.

Logan Mailloux has his first career NHL point.
As expected, the veterans on the team will cover the fine, as they all went through the same tradition with their rookie lap, and while it seems like a silly rule to many, it appears to be sticking around.
