The New York Rangers' rookie Matt Rempe opened up about scoring his first career playoff goal in his post-game interview.
In the Rangers' 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals, Matt Rempe scored his first playoff goal in the NHL, and the first goal of his team in the 2023-24 playoffs.
If you missed it, here's how he beat the Capitals' goalie Charlie Lindgren:
"MATT REMPE'S FIRST PLAYOFF GOAL GIVES THE RANGERS THE LEAD 😱"
In an intermission interview with ESPN's Emliy Kaplan, Rempe talked about his goal and how he felt in that moment:
"It was awesome, the crowd was absolutely bumping. It was electric, it was unreal. Love it."
"All the guys coming and hugging me after. That was pretty cool."
"So much fun. Having a blast, it's unreal. It's the coolest building I've ever seen."
"I think I'm built for the playoffs."
Rempe became the first Rangers' player to score his first playoff goal in his first playoff game since Matt Gilroy, in 2011.
"Matt Rempe scored the first of three quick New York goals and became the first @NYRangers player to score in his first career playoff game since Matt Gilroy in Game 1 of the 2011 Conference Quarterfinals, also vs. WSH."
The Rangers ended up scoring three goals in 2:06, the third-fastest three goals in playoffs in franchise history:
"Matt Rempe scored the first of three Rangers goals in a span of 2:06 of the second period, the third-fastest three goals in a playoff game in franchise history behind 0:38 in Game 3 of the 1986 Division Semifinals and 1:02 in Game 6 of the 1996 Conference Quarterfinals."
Rempe's strong game surely convinced head coach Peter Laviolette to keep him in the lineup for the second game.
