New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette has very strict rules regarding players arriving at hotels before games, which is garnering a ton of criticism.

Former Vezina Trophy winning goalie Igor Shesterkin was interviewed recently where he said that Peter LaviolettePeter Laviolette implemented a rule last season where all players needed to be at the hotel at least four hours or more before game time to avoid getting fined. Any player showing up less than four hours to game time at the hotel would receive a hefty fine by the coach.
This rule isn't just for road games, as even if the team is playing at home at Madison Square Garden, all players must report to the team hotel by 3 p.m. to avoid a fine if the game starts at 7. Then all players board a bus together and head to the arena.
Igor Shesterkin did say that no one has been fined yet, however some players did come very close to the deadline. This is Peter Laviolette's attempt to create team chemistry so that everyone is on the same page, but it could also irritate others which could lead to potential problems in the long run.
Last season, Laviolette introduced a rule that everyone must arrive at the hotel four hours before the game starts - this is done so that no one is late for the game because of traffic. If the game is at 7 p.m. and you haven't arrived at the hotel by 3 p.m., there will be a fine. It has never happened that anyone was late, but there have been times when guys arrived just in time. But I always stayed at the hotel. I like to sleep during the day, so I am never late.

- Igor Shesterkin

Living or trying to navigate through downtown Manhattan where the Rangers arena is, isn't easy, People could be stuck for hours in traffic, which is why Peter Laviolette implemented this rule, so that none of his players are ever late for a game. It's all for the better of the team.
