The Ottawa Senators gave up some big assets to land Linus Ullmark this off-season, but it may not be a long lived partnership.

After a year of speculation, the Boston Bruins finally decided to trade Linus Ullmark this off-season, taking back Joonas Korpisalo and getting two further assets in return.
However, it may not last long, as insider Frank Corrado has suggested a deal may not get done before the season as Ullmark heads into unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2025.
"The whole contract situation and the talks about that, that is something that (Senators GM) Steve (Staios) and my agent will deal with off to the side. I told them as well that once there is something that needs to be discussed, you can always reach me ... I try not to look too far ahead.

"I try to stay in the moment and not worry about what may or what could be in the future and instead, just enjoying the present."

We've seen plenty of players and agents in the past make comments such as these only to depart their teams via trade or free agency, and given the Senators disappointing seasons in recent years, it's safe to see why he'd want to wait and see. If the team can't pick it up in 2024/25, it makes sense if he wants to explore free agency, so for now, this year could be make or break for this core in Ottawa.
