There's a buzz in the air for Ottawa Senators fans as rumors swirl about a potential reunion with Jean-Gabriel Pageau.
The New York Islanders, looking to clear some salary cap space after signing Anthony Duclair and re-signing Mike Reilly, in NHL free agency, might be trading Pageau, and his former home could be the perfect destination.
Pageau, a middle-six center with a $5 million average annual value (AAV) contract, is expendable as the Isles exploring options to offload his cap hit, and the Senators, who are rebuilding and looking for experienced players to mentor their young roster, fit the bill perfectly.
Reports are already suggesting that the Islanders and Senators have resumed trade talks around Pageau.
#Isles and #Sens have resumed trade talks around Pageau. The Islanders want to clear his contract to make room for a bonafide top 6 player. They've had serious interest in #NHLJets Ehlers, as well as #Flytogether Vatrano.
Palmieri has also been mentioned in talks with teams.
For Ottawa, bringing Pageau back could mean adding a familiar face who knows the team and can provide leadership on and off the ice.
In his first game back in Ottawa, Senators fans show their love for Jean-Gabriel Pageau 👏
There are also talks about Kyle Palmieri being moved, but Pageau seems more realistic. Palmieri is part of the Islanders' power play, making him a tougher piece to part with.
Palmieri is his own category. Not comparable to pageau. Both bring a lot, but Palmieri is crucial to the PP and he's strong all around
The Islanders even offered Pageau to the Jets for Nikolaj Ehlers, indicating they're serious about moving him.
Islanders have sent an offer to the #NHLJets for Ehlers. It involves Pageau as well as picks/prospects. No further details other than that. Jets have a lot of potential moves hear with #Canes and #Sabres also pushing hard. #NYR trying to move trouba in this deal. #Isles #NHL
Let's see if Ottawa jumps on the opportunity or make the Islanders search elsewhere.
