During last night's game between the Penguins and the Bruins, Brad Marchand narrowly avoided a skate blade that was going right towards his head, this was quite a scary situation, because Marchand barely dodged a serious injury.
This season, the NHL has had an increase in awareness for the dangers of skate blade injuries. Thankfully, one was avoided last night during the matchup between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins. The incident occurred when Brad Marchand and Michael Bunting had a small encounter that resulted in Marchand tripping Bunting, the trip caused Bunting's skate to fly right up into the air.
Check out this replay that shows just how close the blade got to Marchand's head:
Some fans have said that they believe that Bunting's actions were intentional, this is quite a serious accusation that does not have much evidence. Even if you slow down the replay, it is impossible to determine if Bunting did this on purpose.
The Bruins beat the Penguins 6-4. Marchand was quite helpful for the Bruins, scoring a shorthanded goal that brought the score to 4-1, which helped solidify their lead.
"No idea what EK is doing but Marchand shorty 4-1"
Luckily, the skate blade did not cut Marchand, and both players will walk away from the situation unharmed. This incident is another chance for the NHL to think about skate blade injuries, and for the league to continue their push for players to wear neck guards.
