Kris Letang is a star defenseman for the Pittsburgh Penguins and he has just made a major statement where he would possibly retire with the Montreal Canadiens.
Mark Madden is a journalist for the Pittsburgh Penguins and has revealed that over the past few days, negotiations between the Pens and the Montreal Canadiens have been taking place involving trading Kris Letang, and we have just found out that those discussions were at the shocking request of Letang himself.
It appears that those negotiations have been stopped for the moment as GM of the Habs Kent Hughes recently turned his focus on acquiring Patrik Laine from the Columbus Blue Jackets, however Mark Madden believes it's very possible the Kris Letang discussions will resume eventually, now that Kris has specifically requested that he wants to retire in his home province of Quebec.
At the end of the day, this isn't an immediate trade request by Kris Letang, but rather more of a special request that at some point, he would like to be wearing a Montreal Canadiens uniform as he wants to retire with the team.
Montreal's acquisition of Patrik Laine is proof that the team is getting serious about winning, and it no doubt added further interest to Kris Letang's desire to play for the Habs. Letang was born in Montreal and has all his family there, so this move would be a no-brainer for him.
Kris Letang was drafted in the 3rd round by the Penguins back in 2005, and has played in 1,087 games all with Pittsburgh. He has scored 166 goals and added 576 assists for 742 points.
