As NHL free agency comes to a close the Vegas Golden Knights have made a move signing Stanley Cup champion forward Tanner Pearson to a contract.
The Vegas Golden Knights continue to add competition to their forward group heading into the preseason. They have signed Tanner Pearson to a professional tryout contract for the upcoming season.
The signing comes as a bit of a surprise as Tanner Pearson had not been connected to the Golden Knights throughout the offseason to this point. However, now that he is signed he could bring an interesting dynamic to the lineup that could allow him to stick.
Could Tanner Pearson carve out a role on the Vegas Golden Knights?
The Vegas Golden Knights are looking to get back to the Stanley Cup Finals after falling short this past season. The biggest problem for the Golden Knights this past season was forward depth. Signing Tanner Pearson could bring the depth and experience the Golden Knights are looking for in the playoffs.
At 32 years old Tanner Pearson is not the player he used to be when he was with the Los Angeles Kings. This is shown by his stats last season with the Montreal Canadiens where he barely eclipsed 10 points. However, if Tanner Pearson is not relied on to play every night his play on the nights he is in the lineup could take a jump.
Whether or not Tanner Pearson makes the Vegas Golden Knights roster will come down to his play in the NHL preseason. If he can show flashes of his peak play then a spot could be earned. If not Tanner Pearson could be looking for a new team when the NHL season begins.
