There was a time in recent memory where it appeared Nazem Kadri was heading back to Toronto to be reunited with his former teammates, but that door has closed.
Initially, Kadri seemed open and eager to re-joining the Leafs, and it seemed very likely he was going to waive his no-trade clause to facilitate the move. This would have really helped the Leafs who are in search of a player at the centre position. It now appears that Kadri is no longer interested in joining the Leafs, as it has been revealed he would not waive his no-movement clause.
Do you think the Flames will look to move Nazem Kadri? TSN Calgary Bureau Chief @SalimValji joins @JayOnraitto discuss.
The hearts of Leafs fans were crushed when Kadri left the team a few years ago, as he was regarded as a fan favorite, so it's no question that Kadri would be welcome back with open arms. Even if Kadri would be willing to waive his no-trade clause, the Leafs would likely not have enough cap room to sign him, as Kadri is owed $7 million over the next 5 years. It would require the Leafs to make a significant blockbuster trade in order to free up cap space for Kadri.
Barry Trotz tells @JaredStillman there's truth to the rumors of Preds being in on some big names on trade market.
He mentions a "prominent player in Toronto" as "people trying to connect dots" but also lists reasons why someone like Mitch Marner would want to come to NSH.
There was a moment in all of this when Leafs fans thought they would be able to dust off their Kadri jerseys and bring them back to life, however their hearts have now been crushed to find out that Kadri has no intention of coming back.
