All off-season long, we've heard about the Toronto Maple Leafs being open to trading
Mitch Marner, but now it appears there may be momentum building towards a potential John Tavares deal. The captain holds a NMC as he heads into his final season with the Maple Leafs, so any deal would be a tough one to make, but it hasn't stopped fans from proposing deals.
Now, an intriguing one has emerged that would see Toronto get three major pieces from Seattle in exchange for the captain in his last year of a seven-year, $77 million deal.
On paper, it's an intriguing one for both teams, as Toronto get a 3C and a bottom six forward as well as a second-round pick in next years draft, while Toronto would simply give up Tavares, who fills a major need for Seattle. However, this isn't one that would come into the realm of possibility, as Tavares is headed towards free agency and would need to waive his NMC, and if Toronto were to part ways with their captain, it would likely need to be a big overpay.
With the 2024/25 season just two months away, these types of deals proposed may be a thing of the past, but if Toronto are looking for a shakeup, don't be surprised to hear more about a potential John Tavares trade.
